OT’s Role in Wound Care and Promoting Skin Integrity Across Multiple Diagnoses

This course will help to broaden participant understanding of the role of occupational therapy in wound care and promoting skin integrity for individuals with spinal cord injuries, as well as the medically complex and amputee populations. Preventions and techniques to help with decreasing pressure wounds, maintaining good hygiene, and healthy skin will be discussed. Strategies will be shared to increase patient awareness of the importance of ensuring good skin integrity to promote good quality of life.
Objectives:
Following this course, attendees will be able to:
- Identify the detrimental effects of impaired skin within the SCI population.
- Be able to identify OT’s unique role in wound care and prevention among multiple diagnosis.
- Understand benefits of technology for wound prevention.
- Understand wound care implications for the medically complex and amputee population.
- Understand the impact of wounds on ADLs and basic considerations.
